At Gosford Park, reading is at the heart of all we do. We aim to instil a lifelong love of reading in every child in order to open their minds, enrich their lives and improve well-being. Through the use of carefully selected fiction and non-fiction texts, we encourage children to think critically and analytically, while placing an important focus on understanding challenging vocabulary to unlock and support learning across the curriculum.
Our new school library plays a central role in this vision. Each week, children borrow a home reading book from the library, choosing from a wide range of high‑quality, levelled texts. Books are scanned out when borrowed and scanned back in when returned, helping children learn responsibility and enabling us to track reading progress more effectively.

Our Amazing Library

A Special Thank You
We were delighted to welcome local author Aaron Ashmore, who officially opened our newly refreshed school library during his visit. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Aaron for his enthusiasm and support, and to everyone-staff, parents, volunteers, and community members – who helped bring our library to life. Your time, dedication, and passion for reading have created a warm, inspiring space where children can explore stories, discover new interests, and grow as confident readers. We are incredibly grateful for all who continue to support the running of the library and ensure it remains a treasured resource for our school community.

We are proud of our school library – a vibrant space filled with stories waiting to be discovered! Children can borrow books regularly and explore a wide range of genres, from adventure and fantasy to science and history. Our library is not just a room; it’s a hub for imagination and learning.
Reading at Home: How Parents Can Help
Home is the perfect place to nurture a love for books. Here are a few simple ways parents can make reading a joyful part of everyday life:
- Create a reading routine: Set aside 10–15 minutes each day for reading together.
- Be a reading role model: Let your child see you enjoying books, newspapers, or magazines.
- Talk about stories: Ask questions about the characters and plot to spark discussion and deeper understanding.
- Offer choice: Allow children to pick books that interest them – choice builds motivation.
Encouraging reading at home and making the most of our library resources will help every child grow into a confident, enthusiastic reader. Together, we can inspire a lifelong love of books!
