MFL - Modern Foreign Languages

Intent

At Gosford Park we endeavour to develop a love of languages through the teaching of MFL (modern foreign language) in a fun and enjoyable way. We have chosen to teach French as our MFL in KS2, and this is to ensure pupils have a solid foundation before they move into the next phase of their education. Kapow Primary French Scheme of work aims to instil a love of language learning and an awareness of other cultures. We want pupils to develop confidence to communicate in French for practical purposes, using both written and spoken French. Kapow Primary’s French scheme of work supports pupils to meet the National curriculum end of KS2 attainment targets.

Implementation

Throughout the year the children are taught the following skills:

  • speaking and pronunciation
  • listening
  • reading and writing
  • grammar
  • intercultural understanding
  • language detective skills
  • Children are taught French in a way that ensures progression of skills, builds on previous learning and provide both support and challenge for learners.

Impact

After the implementation of the Kapow Primary French, pupils should leave school with a range of language learning skills to enable them to study French, or any other language, with confidence.
